If you're reading this, you've probably been directed to my page, either by me
or someone else. In both cases I apologize for the lack of any real
content. Currently the only things I have available are my resume, and
midi page, and some odds and ends. There is a wave file of me
introducing myself with my IRC handle if
you're insanely curious as
to how I sound. My schedule has been so insanely busy, my life in such insane disarray,
that I lack time to make this a truly enjoyable experience, so please bear with me.
So I'd better introduce myself.
I was born in the United States, but my parents came from Taiwan,
so also gave me a Chinese name: Buoren. I'll eventually put up a
picture of how it's written, for those who can read. Unfortunately,
for the most part, I can't read Chinese. I did take quite a few
years of Chinese school, but without practice, the precious little
I knew has deteriorated into nothing.
Anyway, I am a Junior at
Carnegie Mellon University. I'm majoring in
Computer Science, and minoring in
Japanese.
So, what do I like to do? To make
a long story short, I like making midis, which are computer music compositions.
I've had piano and violin
lessons, and I think I'd die if I didn't have some sort of exposure to
music. As for what sort of music I listen to, it's sort of weird.
My parents had me listen to a lot of classical music, but after I
entered college, I had exposure to other types. So, I've discovered
a taste for certain types of techno, and I also enjoy Japanese pop.
Which brings up my next hobby. I am fascinated
by Japanese culture. I am currently taking Japanese at school, and
I've made an effort to learn all that I can about it. I haven't
really been able to explain it, much. It actually started, when
a friend of mine dragged me off to watch some Japanese anime of his.
I found a liking of certain anime, especially those which
seemed to accent Japanese culture. Anyway, that fanaticism of
anime turned into a deep appreciation of some of the aspects of
the culture. My parents thing I'm nuts.
I've also started becoming more interested
in the philosophy of Buddhism, but I haven't been all that good
about following the concepts that I like so much.
I also enjoy other intense philosophical discussion,
including philosophical discussion in media. So, the types of movies I have
a tendency to enjoy are types such as The Truman Show, Contact, and other
movies which ask somewhat deep questions on why we are here, and what the status
of the world is. Certainly, my exposure to movies is somewhat limited, considering
there are multitudes of movies I have not yet seen, that I want to.
And I somewhat like photography, though I'm
not all that good at it. Here's a picture of Hartford on newyear's
day, the sunrise.
